Founded in 1961 by freemasons working in the aviation industry, who had diverse and often unpredictable schedules and finding it hard to commit to the stringent guidelines to be an officer in any Masonic order. Under the direction of Worshipful Brother Bill Windrum, a formal petition for dispensation was submitted to the Grand Lodge of BC signed by 116 founding members. The petition was accepted and the lodge was instituted on May 11, 1961 with 14 officers, 73 members and 89 visitors in attendance.
On Sept 13, 1961, Aviation Lodge was constituted by the Grand Master of BC, Most Worshipful Brother James R. Mitchell with Worshipful Brother Bill Windrum being installed as the Founding Master. Their goal was to accommodate the schedules of the brethren while delivering a high standard of work.
Although even today we have strong ties to the aviation industry, we now have members from all professions. We do however maintain the same high standard for ritual work that was set out by our founding brethren.
